Hello!
My name is Sam Cusson and I am a creative based out of Manhattan, NY.
I grew up in a small county in one of the smallest states, New Jersey, and spent my childhood, teenage-hood, and early young adulthood performing in theatrical productions there. With no budget for film and literally not one person interested in paying to see straight plays, when I began to pursue, what I found at a young age to be my passion, acting, I was swept up into the community of musical theatre. As horrifying as the musical theatre community seems from afar and how it is portrayed in movies… well, I’m not going to lie, it is portrayed pretty well depending on what community of musical theatre you find yourself in, BUT I found myself in the musical theatre community of Central Jersey that prioritized believable acting and storytelling (A little more grounded than the stereotypical thespian tribe). We intended to reach, not just those who already appreciated the arts, but the standard civilian with no expectations of it who probably doesn’t know how to pronounce Les Miserables. We were… the cool thespians, if you will. The type of conservatory with cutthroat auditions and high school shows that say curse words! It was here that I began to develop my craft and prioritization in acting, nuance, and belief all culminating into the overarching goal: Effective storytelling. Storytelling that changes people. And, in the little red county I grew up in, every provocative show was bound to change people. Whether it was a posse of elders storming out of the intermission of Spring Awakening having lost faith in the younger generation or restoring someone’s belief in God through Les Miserables. It was a great run, truly, in that little county of New Jersey, but once I struck my legal adulthood and turned 18, it was time to spread my artistry elsewhere. So, I took a 40 minute drive up to NYC! I pursued education/training at NYU in the Experimental Theatre Wing before taking time off to jump right into the industry. Since then, I have been acting in NYC as well as pursuing the other facets of storytelling in the entertainment industry. My grit has kept me afloat and I have been blessed with enough opportunities to continue doing what I love.
